The "Fat Guys" Origin Story

If you think "fine wine" requires pinkies up and hushed tones, Three Fat Guys (TFG) is here to sack that stereotype. The winery was founded by three former Green Bay Packers offensive linemen: Tony Moll, Daryn Colledge, and Jason Spitz.

The trio met during the 2006 NFL draft. In the locker room, skill-position players (quarterbacks, receivers) were teased as the "High Socks" for their primping and vanity, while the offensive line proudly embraced the moniker "The Fat Guys." Unlike many celebrity-backed brands where the famous face is just a label, this is a passion project rooted in genuine history. Tony Moll, the proprietor and winemaker, is actually a Sonoma native with five generations of family history in the local vineyards. After retiring from the NFL, he returned home to trade blocking sleds for fermentation tanks, teaming up with Winemaker Jim McMahon to produce serious wines without the serious attitude.

The Wines: Unexpected Finesse

You might expect a winery run by 300-pound linemen to exclusively pump out heavy, punch-you-in-the-mouth reds. While they do make bold wines, their portfolio shows surprising finesse.
